Indiana Hoosier Lotto
Overview |
The Indiana Hoosier Lotto is the official lottery of the US state
of Indiana. It is so named because Indiana is also known colloquially as
the Hoosier state. The draw takes place twice a week - the minimum
jackpot starts at a respectable $1 million, and it stays fixed at this
amount for the first 2 draws. From then on it is increased by $500,000
each time the jackpot is not won.
Each draw sees 6 numbers drawn, and there are 5 prize divisions -
prizes are given out starting at matching 2 numbers correctly. There are
no bonus balls drawn, so this is a straightforward lottery. There is a
total number pool of 48, so your odds of correctly predicting at least
two numbers, and thus winning a prize, are 1 in 8.
The Indiana Hoosier Lotto will allow you to choose how you
wish to receive your jackpot winnings. You can opt to have around 50% of
the jackpot paid out immediately as a lump sum in cash, or you can
receive a cash instalment once a year for 30 years. You can of course
leave this annuity in your estate as well. You need to use an official
claim form for any winnings over $25. |
