December 17 - Despite the economic recession, each week tens of millions of
Americans play some form of lottery, but it's the enormous interstate or
national lotteries in the U.S. that have lottery fans drooling, particularly
when they continue to rollover and end up with huge jackpots.
For instance, the Powerball lottery jackpot is currently sitting at a
whopping $92 million because nobody matched the winning 5 numbers and Powerball
in last night's draw (Wednesday, December 16). Although one lucky player did win
$200,000 by matching the winning 5 numbers.
This means that the next Powerball lottery draw - which is scheduled for
Saturday, December 19 - could actually make one lucky lotto player $92 million
richer ($45.5 million before taxes if they take the cash option) or possibly a
whole bunch of lucky lottery winners multi-millionaires.
But the Powerball lottery jackpot pales in comparison to the
Mega
Millions lottery jackpot which is currently sitting at a gigantic $140
million. Due to its regularly mammoth jackpots, its no surprise that the Mega
Millions lottery is one of the biggest and most popular lotteries in the
country.
Scheduled for tomorrow night (Friday, December 18), the next Mega Millions
lottery draw could also create a single super wealthy winner (who could take
home a check for $87.5 million before taxes if they take the cash option) or a
number of equally fortunate instant multi-millionaires.
It is this sense of anticipation that drives lottery fans to stock up on tickets
for these large draws in the hope that they could become the country's newest
millionaire and put any money worries they may have behind them for good. It is
why jackpots this size grow so big when not won.
The Powerball lottery is played in the following 31 states: Arizona, Colorado,
Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine,
Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota,
Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee,
Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia. As well as Washington D.C. and the U.S.
Virgin Islands.
The Mega Millions lottery is played in the following 12 states: California,
Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York,
Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
