August 8 - On Wednesday this week Canada celebrated the second largest
Lotto 6/49 jackpot in the country's history, of $45.1 million which, as it
turned out, was won by just two lucky lotto ticket holders from two different
Canadian provinces, Quebec and Ontario.
While the lucky Lotto 6/49 winners have yet to be identified, each will
walk away with a whopping $22,572,856. This is not a bad payday for a lottery
ticket that cost only $2. The lucky Lotto 6/49 numbers drawn on Wednesday night
are: 10, 18, 22, 26, 34, 38 and the Bonus number was 39.
The Canadian record for the highest ever Lotto 6/49 jackpot that was paid out to
a single lottery ticket holder was in October 2005. Then, a syndicate comprising
17 people from Viking Holdings in Sedgewick, Alberta, won a staggering $54.3
million ($3,294,227.60 each).
But there were far more than just two winners on Wednesday evening as a result
of the Lotto 6/49 draw. For instance, 17 Lotto 6/49 ticket holders got 5 numbers
and the Bonus right, each winning $220,055.50, while 650 ticket holders got 5
numbers correct, each winning $5,379.00.
A total of 33,693 ticket holders each won $201.00 for getting 4 numbers correct,
while 568,084 players each earned themselves $10.00 for getting 3 numbers
correct. And finally, 374,286 players won $5.00 each for getting 2 numbers and
the Bonus right, so there were plenty of Lotto 6/49 winners.
The total Lotto 6/49 prize pool for Wednesday's draw was $65,815,244.00. The
reason Wednesday's Lotto 6/49 jackpot was so large was because there were no
winning jackpot tickets from a few previous Lotto 6/49 draws, resulting in a
rare but much-appreciated rollover.
