June 23 - An unnamed widow and mother of two from KwaZulu-Natal province in
South Africa, could not believe her luck recently after she realized that she
had won a whopping R8 million (US$1 million) in the country's National Lottery
draw.
The woman told the South African National Lottery operator, Gidani,
that she 'was so nervous about keeping her winning lottery ticket safe that she
ended up hiding it under her carpet'. The woman bought R70 worth of Lotto
Quickpick tickets ahead of the June 14th draw.
'I couldn't believe it when I saw that the winning lotto numbers matched those
on my ticket. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming, and while I
was very happy about winning such a lot of money, I was scared about keeping the
ticket safe and sound,' she said.
The woman, who works in the medical profession in KwaZulu Natal, is reportedly a
regular churchgoer. When she realized that she had become an instant millionaire
and that her financial problems were a thing of the past, she immediately
'thanked God for blessing her with the jackpot.'
n terms of the lucky lady's plans for the future, she says she'll donate some
of her National Lottery winnings to her church, spend some on renovations to her
house, buy a new car and invest the rest, particularly on education for her
sons, to give them a good head start in life.
Before her huge windfall, the widow said she played about R300 every month on
the South African National Lottery, with her largest win before this R3,500.
