South Africa to Get its Own PowerBall Lottery - 10-14-09

October 14 - Gidani, the official operator of South Africa's National Lottery, has announced that on Friday (October 16, 2009), it will launch its own PowerBall Lottery, a lotto game that has proved to be very popular all over the world, including in the United States, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Greece.

What makes PowerBall such a unique lottery game, is that it is especially designed to generate enormous jackpots and make instant multi-millionaires of lottery fans lucky enough to pick the winning numbers. PowerBall differs from South Africa's current 6 number plus bonus number Lotto and LottoPlus game.

In the PowerBall lottery, players have to choose 5 numbers (from a set numbered from 1 to 45) and a bonus or PowerBall (from another set numbered from 1 to 20). A South African PowerBall ticket will cost R3.50, and give its owner the chance to win vast amounts of money, especially in rollover weeks.

South African PowerBall will boast the following 8 prize divisions:

5+1
5+0
4+1
4+0
3+1
3+0
2+1
1+1

Said a Gidani spokesperson, 'Not only will PowerBall offer South Africans an exciting and new lucrative lottery game, but it will also serve to generate substantial financial resources that will be earmarked to address social and economic development, poverty alleviation and other deserving causes in South Africa.

'Gidani will continue to contribute 34 percent of all lottery revenues, including PowerBall, to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF). We have given R2,5 billion to the Fund for distribution through non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community based organizations (CBOs) and other entities.

South Africa's PowerBall Lottery will be broadcast live on TV at 21h30 every Tuesday and Friday, while its regular Lotto and LottoPlus games will continue to be broadcast live at 21h30 every Wednesday and Saturday. Only South African lottery fans over the age of 18 can purchase lottery tickets.
