Record Tennessee Lottery Sales in February - 03-04-09 |
March 4 - To say that Tennessee Lottery executives were popping champagne corks after Tennessee Lottery ticket sales reached a record-breaking $108.7 million for the month of February may be overstating things, but you can be sure they were thrilled to break their lottery sales record for February.
The record Tennessee Lottery ticket sales were attributed to two factors - one, the fact that the United States (and thus all of its states) are in the midst of a serious economic downturn which has seen countless Americans lose their homes and jobs, and are as a result eager to win instant cash on lotteries.
And two, the fact that the Tennessee Lottery recently launched an exciting new instant winner lottery game called Tennessee Millionaires Club, where players can win one of 20 prizes of $1 million each as well as their share of $150 million in cash prizes - the most lucrative Tennessee Lottery game to date.
Tennessee Lottery officials announced last week that Tennessee Millionaires Club had so far paid out a whopping $15.5 million in cash prizes. It is likely that both of the above factors helped to smash the Tennessee Lottery's previous February lottery sales record of $104.4 million, which was set in 2006.
Said Tennessee Lottery President and CEO, Rebecca Hargrove about the organization's record-breaking month, 'Not only is this great news for the education programs that the Tennessee Lottery funds, but also for the thousands of Tennessee-based lottery fans who have been winning prizes and having fun.
'In addition to our newest and increasingly popular game Tennessee Millionaires Club, we have had several big winners in our other games since the first of the new year, which also helps build excitement and help the Lottery continue its growth, despite the country's tough current economic situation,' she said.
The Tennessee Lottery chief also explained that sales for all Tennessee-only games are just ahead of where they were during the same period last year, and that the Tennessee Lottery, which turned five in January, sells an average of just over $5 million in lottery tickets across the state each week.
