Man Donates $3m Scratch Lottery Jackpot to Church - 08-30-08

August 30 - This week a supposedly sane man from the town of Port Jefferson, New York who won a $3 million 'Ba Da Bling' scratch lottery ticket jackpot in July, donated the ticket to his church, the True North Community Church of Port Jefferson, and asked his pastor keep his identity a secret.

I say 'supposedly sane' man because who in their right mind would just give away a $3 million New York State Lottery ticket? Not me that's for sure and I consider myself a saint. I mean I may not go to church that often, but I've been known to toss a few pennies at the homeless once in a while.

Some of them even manage to catch them.

As the story goes, the anonymous church-going do-gooder crazy person called up Pastor Bertrand Crabbe, invited him to his home and simply handed over the Ba Da Bling ticket but not without uttering these Hallmark-worthy words: 'This is why God put the ticket in my hands'.

So not only is the anonymous scratch lottery ticket jackpot winner a church-going do-gooder crazy person, but he or she can also apparently read God's mind! Move over John Edwards, Jay Leno and that often YouTubed African-American woman who can pop out her eyes in that weird way.

This week the New York State Lottery announced that the True North Community Church of Port Jefferson will receive at least $102,225 a year until 2028, and possibly even more. That is provided the New York State Lottery agrees to refund deducted Ba Da Bling taxes to the non-profit church.

Crabbe claimed the impressive New York State Lottery prize on behalf of his 650-member church that he founded three years ago. The pastor said the church would donate the first year's Ba Da Bling proceeds to various charities including Love 146, which fights against slavery and human trafficking.

Thereafter, he confirmed that he would donate 20 percent to charities, spend some money on a new building for his church and the remainder on high class prostitutes and Bolivian marching powder. Just kidding about the prostitutes and nose candy folks. Ba Da Bling!
