Lucky Lottery Winner Not So Lucky - 02-03-10

February 3 - While most people have dreamed about what they would do if they won a multi-million dollar lottery jackpot, the reality is that relatively few people will ever see their dreams come true. But for those that do, sometimes the new found wealth and financial freedom comes with new problems.

Just ask Abraham Shakespeare, winner of a $31 million Florida lottery jackpot in 2006. Actually, you couldn't ask Abraham even if you wanted to because after being reported missing for many months, he was recently discovered buried beneath three inches of concrete at a house in Plant City, Florida.

While local police are still trying to figure out what happened, it doesn't take a genius to figure out the likely motive for Abraham's murder. After he won the huge lottery jackpot, somebody was either jealous of his new found riches, or wanted to get their hands on them. Either way, murder was the result.

Shakespeare, a 43-year-old truck driver, could not believe his luck when he won the enormous Florida lottery prize in 2006. But his road to riches was not an easy on. Before he really got a chance to enjoy his cash, he had to go to court with a fellow trucker who claimed he stole the winning ticket.

Luckily, the judge ruled in his favour and the other trucker's claims were dismissed. However, it seems that Abraham's lottery jackpot good fortune was destined to be cursed. In November 2009 his family reported him missing, although they admitted that they hadn't seen him since April of that year.

When a police investigation failed to turn up the missing Florida lottery winner, speculation began to grow that in all likelihood Abraham had become a victim of foul play. And that speculation turned to fact after an anonymous tip-off to the police yielded the address where the lotto winner was found.

While the police refused to comment on the connection between Abraham and the house on whose property he was buried, according to a local news station the house belongs to the boyfriend of a person of interest in the disappearance of the ultimately unlucky Florida lottery winner.
