June 11 - Never before in the history of the Canadian lottery has such a huge prize being up for grabs.
The jackpot for today's Lotto Max draw is a staggering $50 million!
In addition, there are about 20 additional $1 million Maxmillions prizes - meaning that altogether the prize stands at $70 million!
The Vice President of Lottery Marketing for the Ontario Lottery and Marketing Corporation, Wendy Montgomer spoke yesterday of the excitement that is gripping Canada in the hours leading up to the draw.
"Lotto Max sales are jumping, as people are excited," she said. "There are an estimated twenty additional million dollar draws this week, which is what Canadians asked for - bigger jackpots and more chances to win big prizes.
"This is the largest prize amount we've ever had," she added.
Canadians hoping to win a life-changing amount of money can buy lottery tickets from any OLG retailer until 9 pm. on Friday evening (tonight).
OLGC said that the results of the draw may be published later than usual due to the additional Maxmillions that also need to be taken into account.
Lucky Canadians may wake up on Saturday morning to learn that they have taken home the jackpot, with unofficial numbers already published then.
The reason that the prize is so high is that Lotto Max reached the $50 million mark, an amount at which it is capped.
For each week that the top prize remains unclaimed, more Maxmillions are added.
Since the lottery launched in September last year, it has paid out an eye-popping $506 million!
