Lottery Pool Ticket Yields $76m Jackpot - 02-12-09 |
February 12 - While it's no secret that the majority of school educators around the world don't get paid well, 15 teachers, staff and administrators from Shasta Lake School in California never have to worry about money again after winning a $76 million California's Super Lotto Plus Jackpot last week.
It was Shasta Lake School assistant principal Stephen Gray who bought the Super Lotto Plus ticket, just as he has been doing for the last six years. Only on this occasion it seems that Lady Luck was definitely smiling as the lottery ticket's numbers matched the numbers drawn in last Saturday's draw.
According to Gray, when he told the other members of the Super Lotto Plus pool they all went crazy. 'When I told them about our lottery windfall there was some serious whooping and hollering going on as they realized how much money we had won. It was a truly amazing and joyful experience,' he said.
Gray explained that every year he collected $104 from his fellow Super Lotto Plus enthusiasts and bought 10 weeks worth of lotto tickets from the same place (a Shasta Lake gas station). And to make the jackpot even sweeter, the winning numbers were the same ones the group has played in every draw.
Those winning numbers were 4, 23, 24, 25, 44, and Mega number 18, which now that they have yielded a whopping lottery jackpot, will surely be retired now by the syndicate members. One of whom is retired school employee, Judy Allen, who was over the moon at winning the Super Lotto Plus fortune.
'I've been playing the lottery with the other folks since day one as it is just so much fun. I just figured that if I didn't spend $100 on lottery tickets I'd just end up blowing the cash another way. Boy am I glad that I kept on playing, because now I have more money than I know what to do with,' she said.
After taxes each member of the 'Shasta Lake School 15' walks away with roughly $2-million. When asked about their immediate plans for the future, most of the winners said that they would complete the rest of the school year before reassessing their futures. To teach or not to teach, that is the question.
