Is Twice In One Day Lottery Winner a Fraudster - 08-02-09 |
August 2 - This is the million dollar question being asked by residents of Fall River, Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Lottery Commission, after Phillip Brunelle was interviewed by a local TV news reporter after he claimed to have won $1,000 and a $1 million from two lottery scratch cards on the same day.
This week, however, the credibility of the 29-year-old 'twice in one day lottery winner' has been called into question as many of his 'acquaintances' have come forward and painted a not-too-flattering portrait of him. It seems that Brunelle is no stranger to lying to people or being involved in fraudulent activities.
One email sent to various media outlets by one such anonymous acquaintance alleged that Brunelle has had more than a few run ins with the law. For instance, last September he was reportedly charged by Brockton police for making a hoax phone call in which he claimed that someone had been fatally shot.
In November 2006, he reportedly filed charges with police against Taco Bell, claiming to have been sold a taco laced with drugs. An ensuing police investigation found Brunelle's claims to be unfounded. Two years earlier, Brunelle sued McDonalds after claiming that he got sick from the food in one of its restaurants.
But despite the speculation that the alleged lottery winner 'cried wolf', the Massachusetts Lottery Commission has confirmed that Brunelle's $1,000 lottery scratch card was indeed the real thing after he cashed it in earlier this week. However, the lottery winner has still not come forward to cash in his $1 million ticket.
Said a Massachusetts Lottery Commission spokesperson, 'It is not customary to become involved in any lottery claims until someone comes forward with a valid winning ticket. If and when Mr. Brunelle comes forward and his $1 million scratch card ticket is found to be genuine, at that time we will issue a release.'
The Massachusetts Lottery Commission currently offers a wide and popular selection of $1, $2, $5 and $10 lottery scratch cards. They include Cash Blast, Cash Word, Cool 7's, Harley Davidson and $100,000 A Year For Life.
