Instant Keno Lottery Game Kicks off in Ohio - 08-04-08

August 4 - In order to help offset a mammoth $733 million state budget deficit expected in 2009, the American state of Ohio has rolled out a new 'money-making' method in the form of a new instant Keno lottery game, which officially kicks off across the state today (Monday, August 4th).

As of today, the Ohio Lottery Commission will be running its instant Keno lottery game every four minutes, 365-days a year. This means that during any given 24-hour period, lottery punters in Ohio will have the chance to play 221 instant Keno lottery games, keno being a bingo-like game.

While Ohio Governor, Ted Strickland, may be well pleased with the rollout that is expected to generate much-needed funds to help decrease the state's massive budget deficit, not everyone is as pleased. Several Republican lawmakers in Ohio are adamantly opposed to the new instant Keno lottery games.

Their main criticism surrounds the fact that traditionally instant lottery games are played mostly 'economically disadvantaged' people or too put it more plainly, 'poor' people. Which means that Governor Strickland is looking to top up the state's coffers by generating funds from those that can least afford it.

However, in anticipation of all these new instant Keno lottery game players, retailers across the state have jumped at the opportunity to get more people into their respective stores and outlets. Over 1,000 retailers applied to the Ohio Lottery Commission to provide the game, up to 800 of which were ready to go today.

Ohio Lottery Commission officials have confirmed that by the end of this year, they would like to have at least 2,000 vendors across the state offering instant Keno lottery games. Their aim is to generate a projected target of $292 million, $73 million of which will go towards Ohio's budget deficit.
