Hurricane Katrina Victim Wins $97m Powerball Lottery - 05-12-08 |
May 12 - Carl Hunter is the owner of a construction company in Louisiana. He lost 2 homes when Hurricane Katrina swept over the land.
He has now turned his luck around by winning $97 million in the Powerball Lottery.
He bought the ticket in January because his wife asked him to pick up one when he went to buy milk. He wasn't keen as he had already bought a ticket using his regular numbers a few days before. He decided to buy her the ticket and selected the quick pick option and those few minutes have changed his life forever.
He waited 4 months to claim the ticket because he wanted to complete some construction work and wrap up some contracts first. In fact the day he claimed the jackpot his wife said he was going to be going back to work the next day. This isn't Hunters first Powerball win either...a few years back he won $5000! Luck just seems to follow some people around doesn't it?
This $97m Powerball jackpot win has made Hunter the biggest Louisiana Powerball winner in history. When asked what they intended on doing with their huge windfall, the Hunters said they were going to rebuild a camp they lost during the hurricane and the 73-year-old Hunter says he might consider retirement.
