GTech Grabs NY Lottery Contract - 03-28-09

March 28 - In one of its biggest business coups to date, the Providence based lottery supplier, GTech announced that it has won the contract to run New York's state lottery.

GTech grabbed the right to the lottery from its long term rival, Intralot, essentially clinching itself a contract to operate North America's biggest lottery and one of the top seven lotteries in the world.

The New York Lottery is the most profitable in the United States and the seven year contract will add millions to GTech's already bursting coffers.

"The lottery is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week business," said the director of the New York Lottery, Gordon Medenica. "We process over 5.5 billion transactions a year, transactions that must be secure, impenetrable and 100 percent accurate. Our system needs to be reliable and extremely high performing. We average nearly $20 million a day in sales, and the cost of even the slightest system downtime is enormous."

Several companies bid for the rights to the contract and after an exhausting and often nail biting procurement process, GTech was selected to be the supplier, beating other top firms such as Intralot and Scientific Games who submitted a joint bid.

GTech is naturally aware of the responsibility that now falls on its shoulders to provide the best services possible, but the company is well equipped to do so, having obtained much experience supplying lottery services to practically every corner of the globe.

"We are honored to have the largest lottery in North America and one of the most respected in the world, the New York Lottery, remain as our valued customer," said the President of GTech, Jaymin Patel. "Lotteries from around the world will look at the New York Lottery as a model for balanced and sustainable growth. As the Lottery's online vendor, GTech will continue to deliver the maximum player experience, integrity, security and profitability."
