June 26 - The world's second largest lottery systems supplier, the
Greek-based company, Intralot, has cause to celebrate after recently
being granted a gaming license to operate a lottery in the island of Tasmania,
not far offshore from Australia.
The move will help Intralot expand its already widespread presence into
the Australian market, with Australia boasting some of the biggest and most
lucrative lottery games in the world, after the United States and the United
Kingdom.
According to an Intralot spokesperson, the company will in the very near future
launch a range of lottery draws as well as instant lottery-style games including
Keno, Bingo and Pick 3 in Tasmania, via a network boasting over 80 lottery
points of sale.
Said Constantine Antonopoulos, CEO of Intralot, 'Of course we are very pleased
to have been given the opportunity to expand our presence into another
Australian state, in such a relatively short amount of time. While Keno and
instant win tickets are very popular in Tasmania, we are looking forward
increasing the choice of games available.'
Currently Tasmania has a population of 500,000 people and an undisclosed number
of Tasmanian Devils. In Australia itself, Intralot recently announced that it
will start selling scratch cards, Keno and other lottery-style games from
Tuesday next week in hundreds of shops throughout the state of Victoria.
