Dad Sends Son Winning Scratch Ticket for $777,777 - 05-28-09 |
May 28 - Housewarming gifts come in all shape and sizes, but few are worth as much as $777,777, which is the value of the gift that Thomas and Nadia Pittman ended up receiving from Thomas' father Ron when he mailed them a Super Lucky 7s scratch ticket that yielded the small fortune.
After Thomas and his wife moved into their new home in Altamonte Springs, Florida, Ron decided to send them a housewarming gift consisting of a few gift cards and a Super Lucky 7s scratch ticket as an afterthought. Little did he know that the 'afterthought' would yield such a large windfall.
After his son and daughter-in-law flew up to Auburn, Indiana earlier this week to collect their winnings at Hoosier Lottery headquarters, said Ron, 'I'm not giving away a lottery ticket ever again. I was more worried about sending the gift cards in the mail than the $10 Super Lucky 7s ticket.'
Ron said that when he purchased the lucky lottery scratch ticket from S&S Express in Auburn, he didn't expect it to yield a cash prize as big as it did. But despite his tongue-in cheek answers, the proud father said he was thrilled he could help his son and daughter-in-law along with the money.
A graduate of DeKalb High School in Auburn, Thomas is currently employed as an audio-visual manager for a large resort close to Disney World. When asked what he and his wife intended to spend their Super Lucky 7s cash on, he told reporters that he would first pay off his student loans.
After that, Thomas said that he and his wife would have some fun and help 'stimulate the economy', an indication of how hard-hit most American families have been as a result of the country's current economic recession. But at least the happy couple don't have to worry about any bills for a while.
