Aussies Await $90m Lottery Draw - 06-25-09 |
June 25 - While Oz Lotto fans in Australia were disappointed on Tuesday night as there was no jackpot winners, they can look forward to a bumper draw next Tuesday as the jackpot prize pool will be rolled over to an unprecedented AUD$90 million, well above the forecasted $60 million jackpot.
The massive Oz Lotto jackpot will be the highest in Australian history which is why 1 out of 3 Australians are expected to buy tickets for the big draw. Oz Lotteries, operates OZ Lotto under strict government supervision, is an accredited sales agent of leading Australia lottery operators, NSW Lotteries and Tattersalls.
Said Tattersalls publicity manager, Karen Anning, 'The lotto frenzy we have already experienced over the past week is expected to reach epic proportions in the lead-up to next Tuesday night's draw. As a result, we took a decision to offer Oz Lotto players a minimum guaranteed jackpot of $90 million.'
Ahead of Tuesday night's draw, where the jackpot was a reported $59 million, lottery fans were lined up in lengthy qeues at Oz Lotto agencies across the country from early in the morning until well into the evening. The draw attracted over 79 million entries, each of which had a one in 45 million chance of winning.
'We were simply gob smacked at the enormous response, because this is unknown territory for us,' continued Anning. 'We've never been at this level before and it's the first time in Australian lottery history that the jackpot has been close to the $90 million mark.' The jackpot has been unwon for a record 12 weeks.
The previous highest Oz Lotto jackpot was $52.7 million, which was won in July 2008. Although nobody won the lotto jackpot Tuesday, there were plenty of lotto fans who did not end up empty-handed. Over 1.6 million cash prizes of between $12.90 and $26,376 were won by fans across the vast nation.
'It has taken over public imagination. For as long as there are no first division winners, it is possible to dream that it could be you,' said Anning.
