July 25 - In the land down under, a great grandmother from the west coast
city of Perth recently won an OZ Lotto jackpot prize worth $13 million.
R2 million of which, the kind-hearted pensioner decided to pledge to the
Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) and Channel Seven's Telethon.
When interviewed, the delighted great granny said that when she found out that
she had won so much money thanks to her lucky OZ Lotto ticket, she was
dumbfounded and speechless. However, after she recovered, the first thing she
thought about was donating some of her windfall.
According to the lucky lotto winner, she had made a promise with herself years
ago that if she ever had the means, she would donate money to her favorite
cause, the care of sick children. As a such she pledged $1 million each to PMH,
a well-known children's hospital, and the Telethon (to raise funds for sick
children).
When asked how her husband took the news of her OZ Lotto win, the pensioner
cackled with laughter and said that now she would be free of her husbands jibes
about 'the lotto being a waste of money'. 'I've teased him for years that you've
got to be in it to win it,' she said.
She bought her lucky Slikpik 25 ticket at Warnbro Fair Lottery Centre in Perth.
Ironically, the generous granny admitted that she normally doesn't buy OZ Lotto
tickets, but she did on this occasion because the OZ Lotto jackpot had reached a
mammoth $50 million.
As to what else she's planning to spend her oodles of dollars on, apparently not
a lot. 'I would never go on a plane as I think the sky is for the birds! I have
never been abroad. I?m happy here in Australia as I can see all those wonderful
places on TV', she said.
